more than ever. Over 140 years her charm has not faded. She is still a saint
for our times, carrying her sanctity as though it had the lightness of a
bubble, while still holding a place among the greatest friends of her Father.
It is a joy to grow in the knowledge of her.

A Seat at the Supper
There
was a man who gave a great dinner, and sent out many
invitations. And when the time came for his supper, he sent one of his
servants, telling the invited guests to come, for all was now ready. And all
of them, with one accord, began making excuses. I have bought a farm,
the first one said, and must needs go and look over it; I pray thee count
me excused. And another said, I have bought five pairs of oxen, and I am
on my way to make trial of them; I pray thee, count me excused. And
another said, I have married a wife, and so I am unable to come.
St. Luke 14:16-20 (Knox Version)
There was a man who lived in a large mansion on Sydneys North Shore
and he invited people to a dinner party. On the day of the dinner, he sent
his chauffeur out to bring the guests to the party. But they all made
excuses; for they questioned the mans status in society and they doubted
whether they would benefit by appearing at the dinner. So the first guest
said, Look, Ive just bought another cattle station and I must study the
accounts. Put in an apology for me, would you? The next guest said,
Sorry, but I am buying new prime movers for my trucks. Testing them is
taking all my time. Must beg off. Another said, didnt I tell you? Im
getting married today. Terribly sorry.
